URGENT:

I need 5 Spanish-speaking attorneys (no immig experience needed) for a full-day remote clinic 1/16/20 to help complete asylum apps for folks stuck in MPP in Matamoros.

Jan 16 is a pilot run for this remote clinic through @lawyers4goodgov. We will be needing more volunteers (including non-Spanish speaking attorneys) in the future. Please do not email now unless you are available on Jan 16, but stay tuned for how to volunteer in the future!
NOTE: this is a test run of a fully remote clinic through #L4GG Project Corazon. No need for attorneys to travel - you can help asylum seekers from your home or office, even in your PJs!
UPDATE: there has been amazing response to this. I just landed back in Mpls after a long wknd at the border, need to dig through emails. It looks like we'll be good for Jan 16, starting with 10 attys instead of 5! Will post sign up link for future dates ASAP.

Although its a 209c & Matter of Jean decision, don't be fooled in thinking it is a limited scope, so no biggy.
1/ It is the BIA's first take on "Exceptional and Extremely Unusual Hardship” and "Exercise of Discretion" in the context of an application for relief by a non-citizen with criminal record after AG Barr dropped Matter of Castillo-Perez ... and you guessed it it ain't pretty.
2/ The BIA analysis is sweeping so it will apply to EVERY 42B cancellation of removal application even where criminal record is not present. It basically eliminates eligibility for many cases in which medical hardship to qualifying relative is at issue & narrows Matter of Monreal

I CANNOT fight back alone. I desperately need the help of Twitter. And I dont have much time.

A hearing date has been set for OCTOBER 25th.

This is it. The day it will be decided how much longer my 10 & 12 yrold will suffer abuse, how much longer we'll know that man's torment.
What that means is that I have WEEKS left to get anything, everything I can think of that may help and protect us to the lawyer.

I have been working around the clock for months, fighting desperately to protect my children. I've given everything I have and more of what I don't.

This is at best the nutty shit the extremist wing of your party files on Day 2 of a shutdown to get its demands out there, not the actual good-faith solution that Day 31 actually requires. The Republican Party should never be allowed to recover from this utter disgrace. Never.
If you are a "conservative" who preaches things like small government, limited executive power, "the rule of law," etc you should be angrier than I am--and I'm having trouble finding words for my fury right now--about all of this.
