Bill Buckley once said he'd "rather be governed by the first 2000 names in the Boston telephone directory than the Harvard faculty." Just in case it seemed odd to you that the US conservative tradition could produce an anti-intellectual goon like Trump.
Not stanning for governance by the Harvard faculty here...just pointing out that many of the great conservative defenders of "Western Civilization" have also been fake populists and demagogic anti-intellectuals.
And also, I recognize that Trump himself is not a product of the conservative tradition. He's just a self-seeking grifter. But it's the nation's conservative voters and institutions that got him elected and sustain his power despite his clear unsuitability for office.
