Interesting story about the rift within one campus Republican Club between the alt-right and those not willing to go *that* far right. What's happening in the GOP grassroots (esp. w/ younger folks) is indicative of where the party is headed. dailykos.com/stories/2020/1…
Here's a thread where I develop this line of reasoning vis a vis the GOP grassroots. As evidenced by how easily an incompetent Trump took over the party, it clearly has no leadership structure able to maintain much discipline. No guardrails at all.

The Trump brand staged a successful hostile takeover of the GOP. Why is this surprising to anyone?
For a family of grifters, this is the ultimate grift. You’re above the law, and you can divert significant portions of the nation’s massive resource flows into your pockets and those of your powerful friends and defenders. Why would they ever give that up?
Who would spend decades building a cult of personality around their name, and then just walk away from the kleptocratic gold mine that lay at the end of that path?

In his defense, Mr. Loaf was really baked when he made that ungrounded claim.
FWIW, Carrot Top and the Black Eyed Peas both have made similar remarks, but only as asides.
This reminds me how much I dislike Meat Loaf’s music. The only exception is his album of Beatles covers—Meat the Beatles.
