I wonder how we will cope when our auto industry (over £82 billion a year in revenue and employing 186,000 people) goes away?
That's just the headcount for people employed directly by the main car manufacturers, btw. If you count all the jobs in the supply chain too, the employment of over 850,000 people depends on us maintaining a robust domestic car industry.
Plus remember that 80% of our economy is made up of services. A Canada-style deal would do nothing whatsoever for the service sector. They would lose all the benefits that come from EU membership without anything to replace them.
