dear friends. the sun's up there somewhere and won't set for another 90 minutes, but a short while ago dear #narooma looked like this
the wind is swirling, gusting from everywhere although it seems to be mostly a southerly. thats probably good for narooma, and dangerous as hell for people on the other side of the front. the air is heavy with ash. occasional dry lightning.
power has been out an hour or two after glitching for a while. i guess those transformers they lost in the snowys have pulled the network down.
we are surrounded by the most extraordinary upwelling of energy, expertise, support, generosity, and love. it's a mix of grassroots improv and public services. stretched, stressed, learning as we go. but the centre is holding. people can be proud of what's happening here.
this evening, after weeks of aggressively demonstrating he gives zero fucks about any of us or any of this, @ScottMorrisonMP got the liberals to make him a kind of emergency-boner infomercial about this climate-forced inferno we are living through.
its full of planes and ships and not much about cobargo and its designed to look like they are making an effort because they've been forced to go through the motions. it went out as a liberal party authorised advertisement for "scomos" earnest fucks-giving conversion
to me, that's low: you don't get to marginally redeploy some taxpayer resources that emergency services people have been demanding for months and pretend it's all down to the generosity of the liberal party
and for a while there, the thing had a "donate" button on it that fed your cash straight into the bank account of the same malicious hive of chinless fucks that have done everything in their power for *thirty years* to ensure that this day would come
the donate button is gone now apparently. my rage has not. 8km west of here, 200,000 hectares of unceded Yuin country is smouldering, waiting to be ignited on a westerly that was meant to drive the fires into us today but somehow didn't.
so we'll wait, while people are out risking their lives using the time and resources we have to strengthen these communities as much as possible. we'll wait.
notice: while our attention is drawn to the hapless unforced errors of our amoral fuckup-in-chief, how quiet exxon is being. how quiet adani is being. how quiet santos is being. they like being in the background while using empty suits like morrisson as political shock absorbers
when this is over, consequences must come. this is an obedience test. it feels important that we fail it, with determination, creativity, flamboyance, solidarity and absolute force of will
we'll have a moment of slippage while the machine that did this to us is out of balance. it won't last long. we'll have a lot of new allies. we'll have a moment. please let's not waste it. please stay safe and look out for each other. then it's time to rise #AustraliaOnFire
