@D_Libris I was thinking about this today and came up with 6 concrete steps that could be done, and which I hope the SFWA leadership will consider implementing.
@D_Libris 1) Put together a list of resources that people can consult when getting hit by this sort of thing, including the importance of self-care, making sure your social media is safe from hacking, etc.
@D_Libris That should get included as a resource on the website, which already has plenty of such good stuff.
@D_Libris 2) Put together and publicize a report card for review sites that includes criteria like how well they prevent this sort of thing and use it to pressure them.
@D_Libris 3) Contact the platforms allowing stuff to happen and pressuring them, because a group of hundreds of authors will have more influence on the platform than a single person.
@D_Libris 4) Coordinate a group of volunteers who do things like help the targets by helping with documenting the abuse so the targets don't have to, providing supportive messages, and help file complaints.
@D_Libris 5) Funding their own review platform. Amazon and GR are owned by Amazon; I don't think a system would be a conflict of interest for SFWA, although it would have to be carefully managed.
@D_Libris 6) Providing education in the form of SFWA blog posts and perhaps a brief course on how to handle these things from SFWA Ed. Definitely something on the internal forums outlining how to handle it if members encounter it.
