But NB that once a rule-maker begins to be seen as illegitimate, or as ignoring your concerns, what might otherwise seem trivial matters become important grievances and reasons to rebel or leave: like small pebbles in a shoe.
Which is why those who laughed at the (often trivial or imagined) grievances that many Brexiters had against the EU rather missed the point. If you regard the EU as an illegitimate rule-maker, or feel it ignores you, anything it does (or is said to do) becomes a grievance.
And those who want to preserve the Union with Scotland need to remember that ignoring or appearing to ignore grievances (whether large, small, or exaggerated) is a sure way to bring it to an end.
