Good overview of the safe harbor act and the state of local newspapers. A couple additional comments from me. /1
This is an extremely tired line by Google. It entirely ignores the fact Google has a monopoly on search and any search engine would be driving traffic to websites. It’s what they do. It’s not worth any bonus points in conversations why Google is getting most of the $$$. /2
I agree with this point about not in itself solving the biz model but the combined negotiations can certainly shed light on other opportunities including the one Google and its lobby here (including Chilson) fight the hardest limiting how Google can vacuum up publishers’ data. /3
Trivia time: who is a “journalism professor” who we’ve almost never seen post a tweet critical of Google or Facebook yet takes every opportunity to hammer press publishers & wrongly implies the press has an agenda against G/FB simply by writing reports like @ceciliakang’s...???
