Real talk about @matthewmercer as a boss... He was awesome. Among the best I've had in any industry ever. This human truly puts his money where his mouth is. All parts of the deal were more than fair, but he also had regular check-ins and encouraged us to take big risks.
If you had an idea that wasn't quite working, Matt was there with honest feedback. He led by example, charging headfirst into the word mines. First person in. Last person out. I gave a lot of time and energy to this book, but it's nothing compared to what he poured into it.
Matt was GENEROUS beyond belief with his world. He allowed us to tell unique stories and never backed away from something because it was different, artistically edgy, or flat-out weird. He encouraged breaking from the status quo. This is what every creative wants.
Matt was also great about responding to questions and providing feedback. In addition to being generous with his world, he was always available, which is insane given his schedule. No one cares about this book more than he does, and he was always kind about it. Ego level was 0.
Also, Matt understood there were other things going on in our own lives. Sick? Vacation? Need a day to sort some stuff out? No problem. He had built time into the schedule for that.
#Critters and people who have never seen a single episode of Critical Role are going to love this book. Most of that is because of Matt. Not just his excellent writing, but the way he treated, educated, and fostered his team.
When you work for someone you hope they are one of the following: empathetic, kind, creative, generous, hard-working, willing to fight for you, a mentor, or fair. Matt is all of these.

Thank you for being a great leader and friend.
