1/ THREAD: Whenever I travel to Washington, D.C., I try to take a day or two extra to visit the Smithsonian Museum and some of the memorials. In 1999, I was there on business. This visit was special for me.
2/ On a bright, sunny August day, I walked the length of the National Mall, from the Capitol Building heading west. I stopped and stood about 150 yards in front of the Lincoln Memorial, just south of the reflecting pool.
3/ I had brought with me an audio recording of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s, "I have a Dream" Speech. Like a favorite song, I had already listened to it many times.
4/ This time I listened and pretended it was 28 August 1963. I listened to it three times. While time travel may not be possible, this was kind of close. Please think about doing this yourself — and bring your children.
