@Eksunews 3- Today, we will focus on another importance skill that is needed irrespective of your career choice. Communication. I won't like to rate the skills, but communication is so essential that it can make or maim a career.

@Eksunews 4- Let's not confuse this skill with public speaking or presentation skill. It is different or let me say it is bigger than that.

@Eksunews 5- Communication skill is the ability to pass an information and it is received without in the context that it was sent; preventing your words from being distorted by the receiver.

@Eksunews @DaleCarnegie 7- There are barriers that tend to distort the content and context of your message and break down communication between you and the receiver. Overcoming the barriers is where the skill is needed.

8- Before we go into how to overcome the barriers, let's take a look at what the barriers are. They are many, but I will categorize them under 4 groups

-Cultural
-Physical
-Emotional
-Interpersonal

9- Cultural: these includes language and perceptions that are colored by culture. You should be conscious of the receiver's culture because we all perceive things based on our culture.

10- Physical: Physical barriers are the easiest to overcome because they are not abstract like the others. Normal communication lines will solve this, but the only aspect that must be resolved is gender difference. Gender difference create a barrier in communication.
11- Speak having your receiver's gender in mind helps to pass across your message without distortion.

12- Emotional: Barriers come from the emotional state of the receiver. You cannot control the emotions of others, but being conscious of it helps you to know when and how to pass your message so that it doesn't get distorted.

13- Interpersonal: This is the hardest to overcome of all the barriers. It is a barrier aimed at distorting your message; a deliberate attempt at misquoting you.

14- All the barriers can be solved if you learn EMPATHY very well. Empathy is putting yourself in the shoes of the receiver before sending your message. It helps you to understand why someone is behaving the way the person is behaving!

15- Practice empathy now with your friends, roommates, classmates and lecturers. The earlier you start, the better. Empathy will greatly improve your communication skill.

16- Next week, we will pick another soft skill and explore it. Thanks for having me again this week.
