I’ll be real with you: I think journalists should be far more worried about calling out their colleagues who are complicit in enabling corruption and sloppy/unethical reporting before we ever worry about whether it’s appropriate for journalists to cast a ballot.
Because to date, the most stringent I’ve seen journalists get publicly over reporting standards is when a college reporter doesn’t do things perfectly. Meanwhile, your grown ass colleagues who should know better are engaging in shenanigans while y’all don’t want to rock the boat.
And I’m not generally opposed to theoretical discussions or open-ended questions on media ethics, but isn’t this shit kinda moot when journalists get away with nonsense while their colleagues look the other way because it’s bad for business? Just wondering.
