I am not shocked that political appointees in Trump's EPA would cover up career EPA experts' concerns about a dangerous sulfide mine. That's business as usual under Trump. I am shocked that Minnesota state regulators would not only go along with this cover up but encourage it.
The objective of Trump's EPA: To keep comments of career EPA scientists about a dangerous sulfide mine out of the public record so Glencore could get permits for its PolyMet sulfide mine.
Glencore by the way is a Swiss mining giant that is close to Vladimir Putin.
Thus far Minnesota's Governor @Tim_Walz and our two senators @amyklobuchar and @TinaSmithMN (all three are on the side of Glencore-PolyMet) have not said a word about this scandal.
All three need to be replaced if they won't stand up against corruption and protect clean water.

Retaliation is sometimes the price one pays.

In the 1930's Jews who called out anti-Semites were told to stop spreading "lies" that they should show some "humility" and that they should admit they were "wrong."
Never again.
If we don't fight bigotry, hatred and retaliation now, we will pay a much higher price later.
So, the Jews complain about anti-Semitism.
First, we'll accuse them of being political and spreading lies.
Next, we'll kick them off the town councils and the University tenure committees.
Next, we'll take away their professorships and remove the Jewish judges.

Far from being an obstacle, academic honesty in historical research is necessary when confronting the past.
Knowing what happened, and who was responsible for what, is critically important to making sure it doesn't happen again.

Results oriented research -- for example research that downplays the role of politicians and political appointees such as University Regents -- in implementing discriminatory policies, makes it much harder to hold persons with political power accountable today.
Minnesota in the 1930's may have been better than Alabama in the 1960's but powerful politicians and University Regents appointed by the Governor and legislature pushed for segregated student housing. Their role needs to be researched and documented in any report on the subject.

That's what universities are doing to students across America.
In the 1950's and 60's public college was almost free. No more.

Irresponsible legislatures either are cutting higher education budgets or are handing universities money for big construction projects and other initiatives without a sensible commitment to control tuition.
Look at this map. Where is the low cost student housing?
Or is it only rich students who are allowed to live near campus?
