(ANNOUNCEMENT) An earlier tweet of mine about Sanders and the DNC is being deliberately misread—and I'd like it to stop. I wrote a tweet noting the DNC wants to stop Sanders but is going about it in a silly way. I *don't endorse* the DNC interfering in the primaries *whatsoever*.
PS/ I've got a long history of being *very* unhappy with how the DNC runs primaries—includes 2016 *and* 2020. Anyone claiming I'm a DNC shill looking to screw with Sanders is trying to get themselves spun up over nothing just to feel something. Find someone else to pirouette off.
PS2/ Like many of you, I'm tired of DNC stupidity—even as I'm a proud Dem. I observed the DNC wants to stop Sanders; it does. I observed it's doing that by going all-in on a fading Biden; it is. I noted that were one a DNC flack, there'd be better strategies to get what it wants.
PS3/ So I made an observation about DNC stupidity by noting that *if* one were a DNC flack looking to stop Sanders, the obvious play would be to get behind Warren rather than the fading Biden, but the DNC won't do that because {*checks notes*} stupidity. That's all I was saying.
PS4/ What I *want* is for the DNC to stay out of the primaries beyond the necessary work of establishing rules for debates, though I think they bungled *that*, too, as the DNC should have ensured a *minimum number of monthly polls* if it planned to use polls for debate admission.
PS5/ If I had my way, there'd be no Democratic super-delegates and—frankly—endorsements would be a thing of the past. I said this when I endorsed Warren: I'm proud to do so, but also don't believe anyone should vote for anyone just because someone else is voting for that person.
PS6/ When I supported Sanders in the 2016 primary—before endorsing Clinton in a long, published essay lauding her *the night she spoke at the DNC*—I saw many tendencies among certain Sanders supporters I found odious. But I don't choose a candidate based on what others are doing.
PS7/ 2020 is playing out like 2016: there are many asswipes supporting *all* the candidates—but so far the most militant asswipes are pro-Sanders. I *don't blame Sanders for that* and *don't think voters should choose a candidate based on that*. I prefer Warren for other reasons.
PS8/ I *also* think any jerks supporting Sanders are a *tiny* fraction of his support base—they're just very... *vocal*. I think, too, that some Sanders supporters who get called jerks online are actually well-intended folks who are simply (like Sanders) passionately ideological.
PS9/ Upshot: I supported Sanders in the 2016 primaries (then endorsed Clinton *during the DNC*); I *still* like Sanders today, though I've endorsed Warren; and the way Sanders supporters are coming at a fellow traveler is downright *scary*. Some of you need to get a goddamn grip.
PS10/ A case-in-point: screw people like this (below). Again, I *do not* blame Sanders for this, any more than I blamed Clinton for certain 2016 Clinton supporters. Playing that blame-game just isn't fair to *any* of the candidates—who can't *micro-manage* millions of supporters.
PS11/ More of what I'm talking about: people making up things I never said (when I supported Bernie in the 2016 primaries—I've endorsed Warren this cycle—excoriated the DNC in 2016 for its handling of the primaries, have criticized the DNC for its handling of debates in 2020...)
PS12/ These people are legitimately mental. I strongly dislike the DNC, oppose *all* DNC interventions in the primaries, excoriated the DNC for its actions in 2016, supported Bernie Sanders in the 2016 primaries... I don't know what's wrong with these people, honestly. Stunning.
