There is a reason so many in the GOP are touting that they aren't paying attention to the House managers' case, that they have tuned it out. There is a reason they promote the idea that it is boring and repetitive and not worth listening to.
It is because that leads people to turn away from the facts. It is because not their entire defense of Trump but the impetus for all Trumpism is founded in and dependent on the ignorance of their supporters. They deny facts because facts are their enemy...
...and because when you have disposed of facts, you can offer up fantasies that are appealing to the supporters and much easier to conjure than results or real change. Only ignorance of the facts can protect someone as clearly guilty as Trump.
Only ignorance can make it possible for a Trump supporter to deny the climate crisis, to believe a tax cut that helps only the rich helps them, to believe that steps that have led to the weakening of America and our become a global laughing stock are in our interests.
Ignorance is the foundation of Trumpism and the root of many of its other characteristics from racism to misogyny to denying science or celebrating the destruction of the rule of law in America. McConnell and the GOP are cheerleaders for ignorance, advocates for incomprehension.
