Interesting: Brooklyn federal prosecutors have charged a former Mexican police officer, Ivan Reyes Arzate, w/taking bribes from drug cartels. Reyes has already been convicted & sentenced on similar charges in Chicago. 
The new charges against Reyes follow the indictment in December of Genaro Garcia Luna, Mexico's former top cop. GGL's lawyer recently told @keegan_hamilton that GGL was not cooperating w/federal authorities. Nonetheless, the prosecutors developed fresh info on Reyes. From where?
@keegan_hamilton Reyes was a senior man in the federal police's Sensitive Investigative Unit, a special team of cops trained & vetted by the DEA. At his sentencing in Chicago, a DEA agent testified about how betrayed (& endangered) DEA felt that Reyes was secretly working w/the narcos.
@keegan_hamilton The Chicago indictment charged Reyes w/having a long-term relationship with the Beltran-Leyva organization. The Brooklyn indictment expands the charges to say that Reyes was working w/other cartels, including El Seguimiento

A top Beltran-Leyva guy, Sergio Villarreal Barragan, testified @ Reyes' Chicago sentencing. In that testimony, Sergio implicated other big Mexican cops & security officials: not only GGL, but Ramon Pequeno and Luis Cardenas Palamino.

@keegan_hamilton Perhaps Sergio's testimony was re-purposed for the Brooklyn charges. Or perhaps there is a new source implicating Reyes that has not yet been made public.
@keegan_hamilton Reyes, it should be noted, is being prosecuted in Brooklyn by the same team prosecuting Garcia Luna.
