Tuning into Labour hustings sadly not there in person - on way back from Brussels on delayed eurostar - but watching along here as you can too:
Slightly left field question for candidates about their favourite football chant. Emily Thornberry first up says she represents Arsenal and supports them but in truth she doesn't really care.
"I know I'm supposed to but you know what I'm a girly"
Lisa Nandy says the question is very anti-rugby league. But her favourite chant is "it's coming home" for Labour.
Keir Starmer says he is a massive football fan and supports Arsenal (north London seat again). Also praises grassroots football.
Rebecca Long-Bailey says she is a United fan and that there is a footballer who will one day be considered in the same way as Socrates and that is "the King" Eric Cantona - "Ooh ah Cantona"
Second question more serious about the places Labour needs to win. Lisa Nandy says "there is no affection for the Tories in the country" but the party has lots of work to do.
Keir Starmer says if you draw a line from Bristol to London there's about 120 constituencies but Labour has just a handful.
Rebecca Long-Bailey says there is no difference between someone who is struggling in Bristol and Blyth. Says they didn't have a message of aspiration. Says "we've got to rebut the smears - we've been too nice." Adds: "We've got to know who the real enemy is".
Emily Thornberry - struggle is struggle and poverty is poverty and it doesn't matter where you come from. There is poverty in London, there's poverty in the south east, there's poverty in the south west.
And it's Brexit... Keir Starmer says it was a sad moment. Says he believed in it as a peace project. Says the UK has spent three years arguing about the deal but not about why it happened - says it renewed his faith in need to reform politics.
RLB says she was "very sad" last night but says Labour needs to realise that they weren't trusted at the election on Brexit. "We cannot wait four years and tell our voters we told you it was going to be this bad" instead need to campaign to make sure they're protected.
Emily Thornberry said she felt "really down" at 11pm last night. Talks about the importance of staying close to the EU. Warns "we may well be back in no deal territory by the summer." "We need a leader who was on the right side all along."
Lisa Nandy says she was feeling "defiant" last night. Says Labour completely missed the point of the "political earthquake" of the Brexit vote which she says was a clamour for more power.
Asked about where the UK is in the world RLB says Labour is an internationalist party. She talks about the role in defence and security - working for stability and peace across the world.
Emily Thornberry says "global Britain" for the Tories is just about trade but much more for Labour. Because we are unilateralist we have a role to play. Calls for leadership role on the Security Council and not just behaving like a Donald Trump 'mini me'.
Lisa Nandy says "we're a better country than the Tories would have you believe".
Keir Starmer calls for a human rights-based foreign policy and trade policy. Says he wants to be a PM that leads on climate change.
Asked about women's rights,Thornberry talks about the threats in the US to Roe vs Wade. Says if abortion is legalised in Northern Ireland it should come to the whole UK. Says it's important to have more women leaders Powerful moment as she says Donald Trump needs to be called out
Lisa Nandy says she used to encourage young women to get into politics - now she's not sure because of the abuse women get in public life.
Keir Starmer as the only man says he will be no less a champion of women's rights than his fellow contestants. Says he has a long history of fighting for women's rights.
RLB says she's proud of Labour's record but warns that the government here will become as bad as Donald Trump's. Speaks of the importance of standing up for trans rights and work to end the gender pay gap.
Q about raising aspirations of white working class - particularly boys and young men. Lisa Nandy points to her experience in the charity sector. Says wc young people are just as ambitious until the age of 14 when "society beats it out of them" Would reinstate EMA and "aim higher"
Keir Starmer - putting money in schools and surestart. Talks about Tory cuts to labour programmes which intervene early. Says many weren't imbeded and have been stripped away by the Tories.
RLB - aspiration is socialism and it's not about social mobility for a few being able to climb a ladder. Cradle to grave education system, making sure apprenticeships are good quality and industrial strategy and secure jobs.
Thornberry says can't expect people to have aspirations if there are not the opportunities - what's the point of doing well at school if there's nothing to go to. Calls for more male teachers. When kids are 13 and they want to find an alternative role model need a youth service.
Housing Q - KS - more houses at affordable rates. It's basic, it should have happened and it hasn't happened. Says in his constituency there's lots of overcrowding. Affects children - struggling at school + very soon can end up on the street Not just housing issue
RLB says housing is a human right. Scrap right to buy unless replaced like for like. Says quality is important - says Labour rules have been rolled back.
Thornberry - The answer to the housing crisis is to build more homes. Carrot and stick - more money going into council houses. Don't have a big enough stick at the moment so change the law - if people landbank for five years they lose it - same with empty flats. And rent controls
Lisa says there are 2 housing crises. In towns like hers but also cities. Overheating cities and underusing another. That's why you have high house prices and rogue landlords. Need to look to councils like Liverpool which has a housing register which Tories have banned
Q about social care and delayed discharge. How to fund it? RLB says contract with the people - if you work hard you will be looked after - has been broken. Says Tories running NHS into the ground and that they want ppl to pay for care. Backs National Care Service.
RLB adds that Labour has too long let the Tories get away with "scroungers" argument says they need to rebrand social security system.
Thornberry says some elderly women have to be put to bed at 5pm - says it's a question of who we are as a country "The British way is we look after one another and put our arms round each other." Says social care should be pay for out of taxation.
Lisa says have to be honest that if we want social care we have to pay for it and "tax is not a bad thing". Says when Labour allowed the Tory "bedroom tax" to be called that they "won the battle but lost the war" as it associated tax with a cruel policy.
KS says social care needs a complete overhaul from top to bottom. Needs to be joined up with the NHS Says it's good that they are all making similar points for future of party BUT price of losing election is not being able to do anything.
Climate change Q: Thornberry talks about the way the supermarkets squeeze farmers who need more support. Especially important as we leave the EU.
Lisa Nandy says "we may not be in power but we're not powerless" says they need to build a broad coalition. "Caroline Lucas is not our enemy".
KS - sustainable agricultural policy. Says ppl should eat less meat. He's veggie but doesn't want to impose it - apart from on his kids. Stop argument that something can be bad for the environment but good for economy: "If it's bad for the environment it's bad for the economy"
RLB says "time is running out" talks about the innovation that can be used to be more green. E.g. moth detectors to avoid spraying pesticides.
Supplementary question on could Labour become first carbon neutral country. LN talks about Labour's good record on the environment - says rather than arguing about "who's more ambitious" going out and telling story of commitment to their issue. Says if they're divided Tories win
Starmer says he wants to "support Lisa on this" says it's one issue the candidates all agree on. Praises work of Stroud council and others. Labour councils actually in power and doing innovative things across the country. Says too much distance between leader and councils.
RLB says it's important for Labour to lead on emissions reduction. Not in government - if don't press the government then when they get into power in 2024 communities will be in even more trouble.
Says every shad cab department needs to have a decarbonise plan. "if we get this right we won't just save the world but re-industrialise our communities."
RLS adds that every shad cab department needs to have a decarbonise plan. "if we get this right we won't just save the world but reindustrialise our communities."
Emily Thornberry calls for action - if not she says all this talk is just adding to the carbon output.
Q about power of members - KS celebrates party of 580,000 members. Says selection should be happening so that it can be a decision for the local members and not the NEC.
RLB says communities won't trust them to democratise politics if they can't do it to their own party. Backs open selections. Says "being an MP is not a job for life". Calls for a new BAME organisation. Calls for more education to empower members.
Thornberry - When Corbyn was elected there was hope about more power to members - I'm afraid we have not seen it. When that rebellion happened in 2016 and ppl turned against Jeremy Corbyn I did not. (Keir Starmer and Lisa Nandy resigned at that point)
Nandy - Seems to agree with RLB that need to walk the walk and talk the talk. Says can't treat Scottish Labour as "branch of Labour". Says members should have a right to make policy at regional conference.
Nandy adds: The only MPs we should be getting rid of are Tory MPs.
Panel asked about thing they've done as constituency MPs that they're most proud of. RLB replies: In her local office says often see "heartache" and its demoralising when not in power. But this bloke brought in a bottle of wine because of the help she had given to his husband...
the man had suffered a terrible accident and the care services seem to give up on it but the husband didn't and with RLB's help he was able to get the care he needed.
Thornberry talks about a Somali woman and her struggle to bring her children over from an area vulnerable to Al-Shabab. She was told she needed more money so worked several jobs. But in the time her child was killed by Al-Shabab...
She put out an appeal in Islington and they raised the money so she could appeal and she won because the judge was told "the people of Islington want this family".
Lisa talks about campaign to save EMA with local students. They said "what are you going to do" she said "what are we going to do". They organised a petition and bussed them to London "One of my proudest day watching them chase Lib Dem and Tory MPs who hid in cupboards"
KS talks about leaving parliament during key Brexit votes to hug and stand next to Somali woman whose son had been stabbed said he's done it too many times. Said he didn't make anything of it - no speeches, no press, just to be there and then went back to Parliament.
Concluding statements - says for her campaign is not about who is going to take party to left or right but forwards. Says she believes she's the right person to take on Boris Johnson. Says it's "going to be a long tough fight" but she is battle hardened and resilient.
Lisa Nandy says Bristol was built by slavery but now is led by Europe's first directly elected black mayor who is showing compassion to refugees and action on climate change - this is the Britain we could be - a country that understands its past but knows where it's going.
Adds - if you want a better world you have to go out and fight for it - I'm asking you to join me.
KS says "we're here because we lost the general election and that's devastating". Didn't just lose one but four. If lose next - Labour would have been out of power for a longer time than since the WWII. Don't change ppl's lives by losing elections.
Says Labour have a choice - mope around for next four years (and we do that well) or face up to the reality.
RLB says she learnt her politics at the top of the stairs listening to her dad and working in a pawn brokers. "We shouldn't be under any illusion about the scale of the defeat but we can't afford to be despondent or retreat from our transformative agenda"
