Crime is getting worse in New York City. Robberies are up 35%, shootings up 23%, burglaries up 22%, and car theft is up 75%.

President Trump still acted decisively and banned travel from China, preventing 20,000+ passengers a day from arriving in the U.S.

Tonight Senate Democrats defeated a bill that would require abortion doctors to give life-saving care to babies born alive during abortions. This is a grave injustice. But the pro-life movement will keep fighting until our society recognizes & protects every human being.
Abortion defenders don't want you to think too hard about what we owe the survivors of abortion, because you might start thinking about what we owe them earlier in life.
Abortion survivors are not fiction, they're real. At least 11 babies were born alive during abortions in Florida in 2017. That's one state in one year. We have no idea how many survive nationwide—some statistics are too uncomfortable to collect.

1. It's a very peculiar view of American democracy to say the elected president is "defying" the unelected bureaucracy. I suspect @nytimes would never run that headline about, say, President Obama.
2. It's not a "nativist view" to say immigration policy should be crafted to benefit American citizens, not foreigners. Slandering "white working-class Americans" with that term is an example of the closed thinking that helped Trump win.

At around 4am, someone kept buzzing & buzzing the intercom. Everyone was at home so we ignored it.Then we heard heavy steps in the building. I found out just now that it was the police trying to get onto the roof. Apparently, their “gun detection” system was triggered in our area
I am just now hearing about “ShopStopper.” This combined with cameras I keep noticing on so many streets is pure what the fuck police fuckery. #NYC

That article is about NYPD using ShotStopper in #Harlem, where I live.

So basically, there are microphones on rooftops, on light poles, etc, that pick up and record sound and send it to a server. WTF

*bail law enables individuals charged with misdemeanor & nonviolent felonies to avoid posting bail money in order to be freed while awaiting trial
*another law gives farm-workers the right to organize, collect overtime if they work more than 60 hours a week, & get a day off

*a minimum wage law raises pay to $15 an hour for all workers in New York City
*another new law will enable adoptees to obtain a certified birth certificate starting Jan. 15

*individuals 16 years or older are now allowed to preregister to vote

In NYC there have been almost daily attacks on outwardly visible Orthodox Jews. These attacks have been perpetrated mainly by minorities. Other than some prominent Orthodox voices, nary a word has been said against this brazen antisemitism.
What might bother me more is that there has also been a deafening silence from the non-Orthodox Jewish community about these attacks on Hasidic Jewish innocents.
It is unclear to me from where this silence comes. Are non-Orthodox Jews embarrassed by their Hasidic brothers? Do they feel no connection to them? Do they quietly feel Hasidim deserve these attacks?
