2020 coming at me like it’s personal.
I’m a huge Red Sox fan and I am so excited about their sub-luxury-tax payroll moves and cost-conscious roster construction! That’s why we’re in this, fans! Amazing job by them. Gonna buy a jersey that says “LuxTaxReset” on the back.
Fenway Sports is only worth seven billion dollars so you can understand them not wanting to pay an extra twelve million to have the best all-around player and most enjoyable personality they’ve ever had on the team for another year.
Honestly, would I even enjoy watching Mookie Betts leg out a double or float back to his left and rob a home run, knowing that his luxury tax salary was decreasing John Henry’s net profits? I don’t think so. Too much psychic baggage, thinking about that dent in the bottom line.
Honestly, this whole thing is a weight off my shoulders. Now I can relax and enjoy #RedSox #Baseball without the burden of knowing that the most exciting and charismatic player they have ever had was slightly weighing down the owners’ personal profits for one year.
Is this really the MVP and future hall-of-famer you want in your franchise, if having him on the franchise *costs you several million dollars and all you have are billions of dollars?!*
Mookie Betts has already hit the average 7-year peak WAR for a Hall of Fame RF, and also he has only played five full years, and also WAR is a counting stat, and also he is 27, and also he makes baseball fun, but on the other hand his salary would carry a moderate tax this season
People, remember: you don't root for the name on the *back* of the jersey. And you don't root for the name on the *front* of the jersey. You root for the spreadsheet column that tracks this year's net profitability for one of many divisions of a billionaire's company's portfolio.
