When Col. Lansana Conte was President of Guinea, @PresidentConde was the opposition leader. He was exiled, detained, claimed to be a democrat. We lawyered for his freedom. Now, he's proving to be a much worse despot than his predecessor cld have dared.

In the past month, @ecowas_cedeao & @UN_UNOWAS have sought to engage @PresidentConde to explore a diplomatic solution to the unfolding #3rdTermCrisisGuinea, but he has made himself un-cooperative or unavailable. The options are closing real fast.
Over the past month too, Guinea's faith leaders persuaded the opposition to suspend #massaction while they engaged with @PresidentConde to find a solution to #3rdTermCrisisGuinea. He has rebuffed them
So, next week, pro-democracy #massaction is likely to resume on the streets of Conakry. It cld get quite bloody. The ppl of Guinea are quite determined to that @PresidentConde shd complete his constitutional term & no more. That's all they ask
So far @ecowas_cedeao has bn unwilling or unable to engage effectively with the situation. If #3rdTermCrisisGuinea degenerates further, it cld endanger the Mano River neighbours, including Côte d'Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone. #Nigeria has the clout to call a halt to this slide.
