2mrw in Abuja, the Court of Justice of @ecowas_cedeao will resume hearing in case of CARL v. Sierra Leone, in which survivors seek #EbolaAccountability for mismanagement of over $14m of relief funds from 2014 #EbolaCrisis.

The suit alleges that the mismanagement & loss of funds earmarked for Ebola response caused violations of the rights of the plaintiffs to life & health under the revised ECOWAS Treaty & other international law & frustrated maximum available resources from fighting Ebola.

According to the @WHO, Sierra Leone recorded a total of 14,124 confirmed cases & 3,956 deaths during the crisis between May 2014 & March 2016, including over 250 health workers, who took on the task of containing the outbreak.

Tomorrow at the hearing, the Court of Justice of @ecowas_cedeao will consider - among other things - an application by the #EbolaSurvivors for the Court to have hearings & take evidence from survivors in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

@ecowas_cedeao Sierra Leone is not the only country in which Ebola crisis relied funds were mis-managed. In Liberia, a govt audit also found that millions of US$ in Ebola assistance were diverted from victims' needs.

@ecowas_cedeao 1 year ago, the Court of Justice of @ecowas_cedeao asked the parties to explore amicable settlement. Govt of Sierra Leone #GoSL frustrated settlement with a precondition that the survivors shd 1st withdraw the case. It was pointless

At the Court of Justice of @ecowas_cedeao today in the case concerning #EbolaAccountability, Counsel representing #EbolaSurvivors & Sierra Leone are joined by international observers, it seems. Taxpayers whose monies were misapplied, like the survivors, want to know what happened

1. say there's no public interest in #Justice4EbolaVictims

2. query that there are no not up to 4,000 #EbolaSurvivors

3. says #EbolaSurvivors have no interest in having hearings in Freetown!

The #EbolaAccountability case came up earlier today before the Court of Justice of @ecowas_cedeao; The Govt of Sierra Leone #GoSL was represented. They gratuitously dismissed #Justice4EbolaSurvivors as unimportant. That was painful to see.
