End-pit lakes are many years away FOR TECK FRONTIER but they are not many years in the future for other projects. Syncrude expects to deploy this strategy at commercial scale within 5 years. Suncor on a similar timeframe. We don't know if it's going to work at all.

A 4 page letter. I'm curious how we define "best-in-class" in this context. It's lower ore grade, higher total volume to be moved per unit bitumen, higher emissions per barrel relative to projects within its class.
This is wrong. It will be more emissions intensive than the last 2 or 3 bitumen mines, with emissions about equal to the average of thst class.
I don't understand this quote. I'd agree that Teck has done a lot of things right in the assessment process, but it's a tough reach to say it would be best in class.

@AER_news The tailings challenge is massive. Let me kick this off by saying that the work that Mohamed Gamal El-Din and others at our universities and in industry and government research shops is very important and I REALLY hope they can solve this, but a crisis is coming fast. 2/N
@AER_news Tailings volume is increasing, timelines are staggering, and the technologies we're relying on to do a lot of work needed in the future are unproven at best, seriously flawed at worst. Fluid tailings volumes increased from 1075 to 1253 million cubic metres from 2014 to 2018

I've found a piece from @OilGasCanada which illustrates everything that's wrong with how we talk about energy and oil demand, emissions, and energy transitions. I'm told it's important that we fight misinformation with respect to our oil industry, please allow me to do so. 1/N
@OilGasCanada The piece in question is here (context.capp.ca/infographics/2…), originally pubilshed in 2018 but updated in November with new information from the @IEA World Energy Outlook 2019, so I'll consider it a new piece. 2/N
@OilGasCanada @IEA There are 3 central claims in the piece:
1) energy demand will increase through 2040;
2) Use of renewables will increase significantly;
3) More oil and more natural gas will be needed through 2040.

They buttress these claims with a cite to the @iea Stated Policies scenario. 3/N

Today, I will try my hand at live tweeting insights from "A #Home of One's Own", a two-day #researchworkshop on socially & economically #marginalised women's experiences of and negotiations with #genderinequalities in #informalurbanhousing in India.
This workshop has been organised by #JadavpurUniversity (School of Women's Studies), #RabindraBharathiUniversity (Centre for Women's Studies) and #Parichiti, a women's organisation. All three are research partners on a #GCRF project funded by @GoldsmithsUoL.
Since Oct 2018, I have collaborated with Dr. Henrike Donner, who is leading it, to develop #researchcollaborations with #educational and #development organisations in India to implement a pilot study on #genderurbanhousing. This workshop marks the end of the first phase.

2/ Let’s start with the April 17 purchase, for $967, of a new @dell computer to replace one relied on by @YJInow that had suddenly died. That’s never fun.

3/ Getting a new computer is always a mix of anticipation & dread because new & fast is great, but it sure does take a lot of work to get everything set up.
Still, it's always nice once it's racing along!

#Today's story to #EndFamilySeparation Four months ago, Dad and 4-month-old entered at the Texas/Mexico border and requested #asylum. Dad and child were immediately separated and the baby put in ORR custody. #FamiliesBelongTogether
Dad was detained in a #Texas detention center where @RAICESTEXAS consulted. Dad accepted a deportation to be quickly reunited w/ his infant child. However, the Dad was deported & NOT his child. The now 8-month-old baby has been in ORR custody for 4 months. #EndFamilySeparation
The Mom and Dad now have once weekly Skype calls with their 8-month-old baby. That's right, folks. They Skype with an infant. #EndFamilySeparation #FamiliesBelongTogether
