For years I have been warning Democrats about the Republican starve-the-beast conspiracy. First, Republicans slash taxes while insisting that the tax cut will pay for itself. Second, the deficit rises sharply because the Republicans were lying through their teeth.
Third, Republicans will pretend to be shocked by the deficit, which is another lie. Fourth, they will say that the deficit is due solely and exclusively to a rise in domestic spending, especially entitlements. The tax cut is blameless.
Fifth, Republicans will sat the tiniest tax increase, especially on the wealthy, will tank the economy. They may grudgingly agree to higher taxes on the poor because they are moochers getting something-for-nothing. It's all playing out exactly as planned. edition.cnn.com/2020/02/10/pol…
