@BHumanPodcast @prospect_uk It's troubling that the three cases the govt has chosen as its battleground to persuade people to erode accountability mechanisms (JR, human rights) are (1) terrorism in Stretham, (2) Shamima Begum, (3) Jamaica deportations - all involving punishing black and brown people.

@BHumanPodcast @prospect_uk As The Sun said - it's "their" rights, or "yours". They aren't stupid enough to make it black/brown on the left and white on the right but the message is clear enough

@BHumanPodcast @prospect_uk I show that Sun front page which is from a few years ago at most lectures I give about human rights as it is a perfect example of framing an issue - the people on the left don't even have names, just "killer", "paedo" etc. That's dehumanisation

@BHumanPodcast @prospect_uk We are going to see a lot more of this in the coming months and years as the anti human rights agenda has to be dressed up as being about public “safety” and will have a racist undertone to it. The reality is it is a way to remove vital ways to keep government accountable

My advice to those fighting against the watering down of accountability through reducing right to judicial review: don't allow the govt to chose the battleground. Focus *as well* on disability rights, healthcare, education etc.

It's extremely important that everyone is protected by human rights and judicial review - including people accused of crimes, criminals, terrorists. But that's only part of the picture and not everyone is a strong believer in universality
