"It's not ads that bother users, it's ads that aren't relevant to them." What a complete crock of groundhog crap.
Let me explain...
If anything, the opposite is true. When ads become too relevant, we feel stalked. And somehow the adtech industry has gotten away with it.
Look at this crap! THIS is what annoys people. A full page of ads before showing any organic results!
Am I to believe that all of these companies will go out of business if they're not able to precisely target men in tech between the ages of 30-55 in California who use DNS as a database? If so, maybe they deserve to go under.
Adtech is a cesspool. It's dangerous! Hell, if I get lastweekinaws.com compromised, I've lost... people's email addresses. Contrast that with @equifax. The problem wasn't that the hackers compromised data, it's that they didn't pay Equifax first.
Marketing's important. I'm a marketer myself! But do we have to lose our souls to do our jobs effectively?
Gather this much information about a specific person instead of everyone, and you'll almost certainly go to prison.

It started when @saltstack was first in development. "This is amazing, why aren't more people talking about this?" "Go for it." So I did.
My first public talk was @pleia2 inviting me to speak at BALUG. I put a bunch of documentation into a slide deck and read it to the audience. It turns out she's super nice even when your talk is garbage.

Why I believe this will work for @MikeBloomberg. (A thread) brands take notes.

1. Start with a wink, not a marriage proposal.

Too many brands skip the early stages of relationship building and go straight to selling. Consumers put up a wall.
2. Make them laugh with you, not at you.

Self deprecating humor can make you more approachable. It’s a sign of many great leaders. And can disarm your critics.

3. When working with influencers, know why their followers follow them and the create inline with that.

It is easy spot #ads because they feel off. Great influencer marketing feels natural. Be willing to adapt your voice to the situation.

Since I started following US politics in the 1990s, 1 simple heuristic has been the most reliable guide: the GOP, at every juncture or decision point, will do/say/be the worst possible thing. The bulk of analytical errors in punditry trace to ignoring or doubting that heuristic.
Go back to the 1990s/'00s and read the most hysterical lefty takes on the GOP. They were correct. The most extreme possible accusations, diagnoses, and predictions were correct. If anything, no one, not even the leftiest lefty, had *low enough* expectations.
Despite this heuristic being 100% reliable for decades now, it still hasn't sunk in -- certainly not in the center-left or in mainstream media or punditry. "Will the GOP do the worst possible thing?" is still treated as an open, even controversial question. But ... they will!

As someone who writes about clemency, I wanted to share a few thoughts on how extraordinary it would be for the president to give a pardon to Navy SEAL Edward Gallagher before he was tried or convicted of his offense. /1
Although the president has the power to give a pardon before a conviction or trial, it is rare event. President Ford's pardon of President Nixon is the most famous example, where Ford did it for the "tranquility of the Nation." /2
Other examples of pre-trial/conviction pardons involve similar public policy reasons, as when Ford pardoned individuals facing prosecution for the Vietnam draft. The idea behind them was that the country would be better off if the matter could be put to rest. /3

3/ There are so many crazy details and rabbit holes to look into when writing about Philip Morris. Going in I knew cigarette companies were shady and they kill people but somehow it was so much worse.

Rather, they are seeking to limit troll-like behavior and some Republicans are being impacted

@sdboyer One recurring theme in your talk is the inability to write down incompatibilities, but that's not off the table for Go modules, as we've discussed.
@sdboyer - You *can* write down "use this with X 1.5 or later", which implicitly says "this is incompatible with X 1.4 and earlier".
