This is the vicious loop of attention merchandising that is accelerating cycles of social and civic entropy. Studying its aftereffects will be too late as the policy-based appendages for providing remedies will have already atrophied.
There’s scant consensus in academia as to whether we even know how to measure the effects of blackbox algorithms on attention, personal data markets, and content production. There’s barely any agreement on how much a cookie is worth let alone how much adfraud is really out there.
