I've never watched Disney's Gargoyles before and was taken off-guard by how much archetypical mastermind villain Xanatos is just Jonathan Frakes talking normally. It's weird to have the master manipulator be soft-spoken and reassuring, without a trace of irony or malevolence...
...but ultimately I guess it explains why he's good at what he does? Like, "Don't make a pun about how you plan on betraying your unwitting lackeys at the first convenient opportunity and then laugh to yourself about how clever it is, in case they didn't notice it." seems basic.
They are a euphonious bunch, but one thing I love about ST:TNG is how supportive the bridge crew are of one another. There's a tendency to share information with and believe one another that is rare in televised drama.
Like, a crew member reports something that seems nonsensical or impossible and they check in if it might have been a dream but there isn't a reflexive "You're probably imagining things." The core assumption is that everybody there is competent and professional and trusted.
