I'm told the PM insisted all his special advisers resign, and in those circumstances Javid refused to stay on as Chancellor.
And all this, 28 days before the Chancellor must deliver a Budget. Safe to say, Boris Johnson's honeymoon is over.
Allies of Javid say Johnson demanded No10 spads replace his HMT ones. Javid saw that as No10 running the Treasury, which made his position untenable. “There was no clash about policy. This was all about control. Sajid has done a very honourable thing”.
