Very good analysis by Hunter of the totally broken interaction between tech & media. I’m probably one of the few who’s helped start multiple companies & written for major media, and the intellectual dishonesty of some major tech execs + VCs is the most toxic part of the dynamic.
And anyone who criticizes media for writing “clickbait” while ignoring that it’s the major tech companies who changed the economics of online publishing to a model *they wanted* is telling on themselves.
Rashmi is correct here, of course, but note who counts as an “insider”.
One of the most harmful parts of this broken dynamic is that anyone trying to do something more thoughtful and considered, either in tech or in media, gets drowned out by all the noise of the dysfunctional model. It’s possible to amplify the good, but few do.
