For four years, we have used the word elite to mean establishment. In function they are the same. But for the establishment the words are not. Therefore, we need to alter the message in a way they can hear it. This election is between two anti establishment candidates.
Nothing says establishment more clearly than totally giving up your principles, no matter how “deeply held”,’ and jumping the aisle to support a nice person with completely different policies.
This is a clear betrayal of the citizenry by the establishment. It’s pitched as bipartisanship. But let’s break that down for a minute. Citizens do not want bipartisanship at OUR expense. We want it in the search for solutions. But over my lifetime that has become corruption.
The powerful people in government, the elected, appointed and the bureaucrats behave in bipartisan ways when it benefits them and their families. And then they manipulate the public by suggesting that they are doing it for us.
People on all sides of the philosophical divide are fed up. This is what gives people like Donald and Bernie such a powerful voice in our politics right now. It is also why the establishment is scrambling so hard to snuff it out. Their power is literally being taken away.
This is also why I believe it is critical that we face up to, and acknowledge this revolution and understand it for what it is. Nancy may continue to blithely suggest we should eat cake, and the Never Trump faction of the right talk about their principles but...
The bottom line is this. We are determining the future political structure of the United Structure. Will that be socialism which sounds great on paper to young people who have been taught to distrust the establishment and will blow up in a Venezuelanish mess or will we remain a
republican capitalist democracy that at least has a some chance to reform and adjust itself over decades? The choice is really ours. And if I’m being quite frank, I don’t hold out a lot of optimism for either. I just know that one offers a chance to not face societal collapse.
“If you can keep it” is a powerful warning. And it’s important that we keep one frame of reference in mind going forward. Government’s job is not to keep us personally comfortable, but to keep society somewhat structured. Not to give us freedom, but to protect our freedom, not to
make our pockets full, but to not hinder our efforts at keeping our pocketbooks full.

This is a big election. There are only four forces. They are the establishment, the socialist revolutionaries, the populists and....

Us. Choose wisely. And may God have mercy on us.
