DOJ will livestream their Section 230 workshop at 9:00 AM eastern this morning. Link inside 👇

This is the section of the Communications Decency Act that gives immunity from liability to users & providers of internet services that publish other people’s info. Like social media.
Barr spoke about how much technology has changed since Section 230, the benefits of technology, but also how technology & Section 230 are used by tech companies, bad actors, and criminals.
He spoke about how tech companies have become so large that there are questions as to whether or not Section 230 immunity is still necessary.

LOL (yeah only for Democrats) 👇

"Congress noted that the Internet offers a “forum for a true diversity of political discourse..."
He also spoke how #BigTech's monetization aligns with making money and not necessarily with what's best for their users.

The #Antitrust review is also looking at this.
He also spoke about how social media & criminals use Section 230 to disregard warrants, sell illegal & faulty products, connect terrorists, and enable child exploitation.
And then there's another sticking point...

In 1997, SCOTUS struck down every other part of the CDA on 1st Amendment grounds, but Section 230 stands that left in place protections for #BigTech.

Gee, what a coincidence.....
