Had the best time today-volunteered to speak to a class at a local high school on religion & public life. Wonderful discussion w/17 & 18 yr olds re: the difference btwn journalism & opinion writing, and what each bring to our understanding & communities.

So encouraging to me!
They were very engaged in trying to understand how bias works, how to be aware of it, how to use bias to create community and strengthen democracy, the importance of listening, and the perils of the internet.
To lead a conversation focussed around religion & politics about such things with teenagers was just about one of the most hopeful things I've done for a long time.
The group had a surprisingly sophisticated grasp of information, fake news, and bias - better than many adults I know.

It was so GREAT that this is a public high school as well.
So, good work journalists, writers, and high school teachers! What you do makes a difference.
