1/ My terrible data-visualization of where a UK and EU deal on the Level Playing Field might lie, if everyone chooses to be grown ups about the whole thing.

Key parts are really what's in the yellow bubbles, which is how SUBSTANTIVELY, commitments should be judged.

2/ If thinking substantively, the EU test for LPF in this deal should be:

"Do the terms of this deal realistically allow the UK to use its regulations to undercut our producers, either without us noticing or without us having legal redress?"

3/ If thinking substantively, the UK test for LPF in this deal should be:

"Would we retain the freedom under the terms of this deal to regulate in any of the ways we can actually foresee ourselves regulating?"

4/ That implies a landing zone, somewhere between a commitment to keep regulations roughly as high as they are now, and dynamically aligning with the EU levels of protection into the future (but not being bound by the actual regulations they use to get there).

5/ All this applies only if both sides are thinking substantively, and pushing back on the urge to get even more political than this already is.

The UK insisting on no restrictions, or the EU pretending the only way they could trust the UK is with ECJ oversight will kill this.
