Okay you ARMv8 assembly language peeps, I'm looking at this code produced by a compiler and can't figure out for the life of me what this extra instruction is on line 6. It moves register x2 into register x0, but then x0/w0 is never used after that point.
The original C code is this chunk. The compiler has performed some optimizations, such as changing buf[i++] to pointer arithmetic *buf++. It's otherwise a straightforward compilation except for that one line.
Is it some sort of noop? Is it breaking a dependency that I don't see? That's normally when I see extraneous, inexplicable instructions inserted by compilers. The third option is this is actually something obvious which I just don't see.
