Better surveillance is making visible what is usually invisible – the window for containing #COVID19 is shutting fast:
- South Korea cases quadrupled in 3 days (now 204)
- Passengers from Diamond Princess cruise ship testing positive around the world
- Iran reporting 18 cases and 4 deaths (no cases two days ago) and saying it has spread to several cities
- First case in Lebanon
- Italy with first 3 cases of local transmission
- A patient in China reportedly tested positive 10 days after discharged from hospital (and meeting discharge requirements)
- Hundreds of cases in Chinese prisons- MRC analysis: 2/3 of COVID cases exported from China have been undetected bit.ly/2SXgCtC

Second day in a row South Korea cases doubled.

See the table, they are currently test another 5,481 so the "daily doubles" might not be over.

Late Jan China had nearly the same number of cases & double rate.

As shown, the Chinese imposed quarantines and travel bans at that point. Today they have 75,000 cases, or 100x more.

In other words, the quarantine and travel ban came too late.

Japan bumbled the cruise ship and let the virus leak into the country. It may cost them the Olympics (and Abe his job). It was doubling every 6 days. Now its every 5 days.

There's a lot of misinformation around the #surveillance notification that came out yesterday. Here's #thread that will help clarify issues.
Is the notification new? Obviously, yes. But is the issue new? Not at all. What the Modi Govt did was only take the next logical step in am existing law.
So what was the law. This is where it gets interesting. The surveillance laws come out of an 18th century postal act that gives powers to intercept communications of correspondents during war.
