Last week, I pulled every Feb 29 daily climate record (temp/precip/snow/snow depth) for every station in the U.S. and Canada. Expect to hear more about this in the coming week. 😀 @Junah_B

@Junah_B @AlaskaWx @HeatwaveKGNS Outside of the Sierra Nevada, the largest Feb 29th snows are: 21.8" at Lander 1N, WY, in 2004; 21" at Wardsboro, VT, in 1948; and 21" at Eklutna Plant, AK, in 1992. 7/
@Junah_B @AlaskaWx @HeatwaveKGNS The following Lower 48 states have reported sub-zero temps on Feb 29: AZ, CA, CO, CT, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, MA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MT, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NV, NY, OH, OR, PA, SD, UT, VT, WA, WI, WV, and WY. 8/
@Junah_B @AlaskaWx @HeatwaveKGNS Excluding Hawai'i, the greatest Feb 29 precipitation was 6.28" at Sappho 8E, WA, in 1964. The only other 5"+ event on Feb 29 also occurred in 1964 at Coquiltam Lake, BC. 9/
@Junah_B @AlaskaWx @HeatwaveKGNS Hawai'i has recorded 10"+ rain on a Feb 29th 8 different times. In 1984, 21.00" was recorded at Puohokamoa. At the same station in 1988, 10.6" ws observed. #hiwx 10/
@Junah_B @AlaskaWx @HeatwaveKGNS Snow depth always favors Cascades and Sierra Nevada stations. In 1972, Mt. Rainier Paradise Ranger Station had 265" of snow on the ground. 11/
