1. Worn down by the grind of educating people about the who, what, why, where, and when of Indigenous resistance, governance, and right to self determination. Worn down by the way that Canada picks and chooses which "rule of law" to enforce and which to ignore.
2.Worn down by pro pipeline conservatives, feigning concern for Indigenous voices (often for the first time ever) as they cherry pick dissenting opinions to amplify and weaponize, to silence the rest of us in pursuit of their anti Indigenous, environmentally destructive ideology.
3. Worn down by the hypocrisy of a a country governed by less than 40% of their popular vote, yet expects 100% consensus from First Nations & uses normal difference as reason to ignore their own SOC rulings and disrespect our sovereignty and inherent right to self determination.
4. Worn down by seeing Indigenous youth criminalized for peaceful defence of our unceded lands and their future. Inconvenience is not injustice. Disruption is not terrorism.
5. Worn down by 150+ years of working within an imposed system, waiting patiently for justice settle being denied basic rights like clean water, dignity and freedom. Meanwhile Canada's patience with having their comforts restricted lasted a only couple of weeks.
6. Worn down by the casual racism of political leaders calling for police to violently remove us from our lands and the overt racism of public calls to run us over. Worn down by gaslit claims that we are the "real racists" or that we are empowering the rise of the extreme right.
7. Worn down by the fragile response to words like "settler," "colonialism" and "genocide." Worn down by the constant demands for information or explanations.
8. But I wake up and continue for my daughter, for the children learning the true history of this country in grade schools and for university students standing in solidarity. I hope that they will carry a different understanding of justice and Indigenous relations into the future
P.S. also worn down enough to leave an extra "a" in tweet 3 and replace "still" with "settle" in tweet 5.
