In one case, a permanent resident didn't list income from a second job and got extra benefits and food stamps. The judge gave him a 364 day stayed sentence so that it wouldn't lead to deportation.

In the other case, a guy was caught selling weed, got a felony conviction and a stay of imposition for good behavior. It was then reduced to a misdemeanor for the good behavior. He thought he was in the clear and years later traveled abroad. When returning through Miami, he...
He was stopped by immigration authorities who flagged the felony that had been reduced to a misdemeanor. He asked the judge to withdraw his guilty plea, saying he didn't know he could be deported. The judge agreed.
Klobuchar again decided to appeal, and won.

The dissent in the food stamp case was savage, with the judge suggesting that if a defense attorney appealed a case asking for a downward sentencing departure of *two days* they'd be sanctioned
