The House just passed the Emmett Till Antilynching Act, a bill to make lynching a federal crime, with a vote of 410-4.

The members who voted against it:
-Justin Amash
-Thomas Massie
-Louie Gohmert
-Ted Yoho
For a decent amount of time during the vote, there were 9 no's. @ckmarie and I watched in the chamber as several of those members slowly changed their votes to yeses as the vote went on: Paul Gosar, Chip Roy, Andy Biggs, Ralph Norman, and at the last minute, Steve King.
@ckmarie Yoho tells @mkraju just now that he opposed it because he believes it’s an “overreach of the federal government” and would infringe on states' rights.

JUST NOW: The House of Representatives overwhelmingly passes the UIGHUR Act, a bill to condemn the Chinese government for its mass internment of Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang, with a vote of 406-1.
The bill would also enable Global Magnitsky Act sanctions on Chinese officials deemed responsible for the concentration camps and require the State Department to assemble a report on human rights abuses in Xinjiang.
The lone no vote was Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie.

They write the NBA “should have anticipated the challenges of doing business in a country run by a repressive single party government—including by being prepared to stand in strong defense of the freedom of expression of its employees, players, and affiliates across the globe.”

Jamie Raskin is showing reporters some of what the State Department IG gave to committee staff today — more details soon
We are still trying to get clarity on exactly what this is.

The IG gave attendees an about 40-page packet of what Raskin describes as conspiracy theories & propaganda about Ukraine/Biden/etc that was addressed to SecState Pompeo.

Raskin says IG doesn’t know where it came from.
Raskin says it feels like an irrelevant distraction.
