"Vote the platform, not the person."

Go ahead and try, but if you want to see a rigged election snatch victory away from your candidate, here's how it works: you can vote for the platform all you want, but the person will take the office anyway.
I suspect more Democrats who voted for the person in the 2008 general election wound up happy with their choice than ones who voted for his platform.
Don't ignore the person. Don't ignore the platform. You need them both, and even then, the right person and the right platform are necessary but not sufficient conditions for the change you want.

The right person matters more for getting the rest.
The person also matters more for dealing with everything the platform didn't cover or go into, which will be a lot.

No one actually has a plan for everything.

And everyone has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.
Vote the person and the platform. It might feel satisfying to believe you are a special class of purely rational voter, but you are voting your biases whether you realize it or not. Especially if not.

And you can't put a platform into office. The person always comes first.
