Today is David's 10-year ALS diagnosis (DX) anniversary. He's had symptoms since before 2003, a progressive muscular atrophy diagnosis since 2006, and was officially diagnosed with ALS in 2010. The first picture was taken in 2004. The second, last year. Life expectancy... 1/
... for someone with ALS is 2-5 years. David has smashed those odds! He's been sick since before the kids were born so we weren't sure our kiddos would ever get a chance to know their dad. We're lucky because he's been able to see them grow into AMAZING little humans! 2/
We've always known it wasn't going to be easy, but damn, it's been worth it. I'm so grateful that even 10-years post diagnosis he still somewhat able to eat, breathe, and talk on his own. That's...I can't even express how incredible that is! He's my hero and I don't say that...3/

David is an Air Force veteran. Veterans are 60% more likely than the general public to be diagnosed with ALS. Air Force veterans are 100% more likely. We don't know what caused David's ALS, but the military connection is undeniable.

I just wanted to celebrate today. We quickly went from being a young couple thinking we had the next 50 years together, to a family that understood our time was limited. But we have tried very hard to not take it for granted and instead focus on all the things that mattered...
...most--love and family and friends and all the little moments that make it all worth it.

Thanks for being a big part of that this last year ❤️
