As a VISUAL medium, being a strong visual narrator gives the strongest help possible in telling a story.
His visuals can tell a better story than a 10m dialogue
Yet again: you're wrong.
What makes a good story? Relatable characters? An interesting world? A well done plot? Original ideas?
Because many people say that his movies are bad because of narrative faults, yet they fail to address those faults.
"The movie is too dark, Batman/Superman are not like these, style over substance, dark filters" and those are NOT legitimate critiques.
Imagine acting like, idk, BvS is a bad movie (objectively) because "It's too dark".
Too dark from what?
What YOU wanted it to be?
Snyder, as an artist, has the OBLIGATION of
They cannot say that he couldn't do it or, worse, he should have done better because that's HIS story and, as long as it's true for himself, it's
You want a BvS movie to be light? Go write your own script, shoot a tease and send it to WB. That will be your own, legitimate story.
But Snyder has EARNED the right of making whatever the hell he wants.
If he feels like his work should be +
Because, and this will lead me to my other points, BvS is not dark. It's realistic.
A world where an alien, who inadvertently brough war to us, is shunned by a torn public opinion is not "dark". It's a Tuesday.
Have you ever seen the news?
A world where a men, once fair and just, was broken down by every tragedy possible into becoming the villain?
Batman V Superman is the most realistic cbm ever.
Clark feels the weight of the world on his shoulders and, sometimes, he's sad. Why wouldn't he?
"Should there be a Superman?"
He becomes the public enemy.
No.
Because he's a farmboy from Kansas.
He's one of us.
He's happy when he's with his mother.
He's happy when he's with his fianceé.
He's happy when he's doing good.
That's a realistic character.
It's realistic.
Get over it.
But what about "Batman kills! My peepee hurts when he kills :,("
Batman has always killed in comics and movies. Kane and Finger's did, Burton's did, Nolan's did.
Bruce has fallen into darkness, even madness, after 20 years of losses and death.
The Black Zero Event, then, completely broke him.
For him, he's always been like this.
Only Alfred, his conscience, can see how low he's falling and has fallen.
For him, criminals are weeds that, if taken out, are instantly replaced by other weeds.
He sees his life as a failure.
He has a mission and he will not stop at anything to complete it.
Quite literally, I might add.
And this is because he IS NOT HIMSELF ANYMORE.
All people he killed were considerable manslaughter but this one? A straight murder.
Batman wanted to kill Superman.
Put a spear in his heart and watch as the monster, the alien, died.
Because Superman is not a God.
Nor a man.
He's a man.
He has a mother.
He has a fianceé.
He has loved ones.
He is here for a reason and he was going to DIE to save his mother.
The universe wanted them to stop.
Martha.
The reason why he didn't become a murderer just stopped him from taking a life.
It's his mother's name.
It's his mother's name.
Bruce Wayne doesn't know how to act anymore.
Who is he?
What was he going to do?
The world needs you, Superman. That threat looks like something I cannot stop.
But "I make you a promise. Martha won't die tonight".
Batman has one chance at saving his mother.
Yes, his own mother.
He knows this will be the last time he will be able to, at least metaphorically, save his mother.
Saving Martha Kent mends something in Bruce's soul.
And the warehouse scene show us exactly that.
Because he's not stopping.
He might be on the path of redemption but he's still broken.
He sees these people and sees individuals that WILL let Martha die.
Batman promised Martha wouldn't die.
And he will make ANYTHING to make sure of that.
But he does not kill nor brand anyone.
Why?
Because he's going through a REDEMPTION ARC.
He manslaughtered those men outside.
Now, he's not.
He could have done it, but he wont.
He's getting everything back under control.
Anatoly threatens Batman: he will do it, unless he drops the weapon.
Batman has the machinegun in his hands and him on the crosshair.
He could easily shoot him in the head.
But what does he do?
He believes him
He shoots the tank.
His weapon.
His own downfall.
The death of Superman.
He sees this selfless individual die for Bruce and Lex's sins and swears that there shall be a new path ahead, one different from the one he followed before.
And this is Batman's new oath.
Bruce: "Men are still good. We fight, we kill, we betray one another. But we can rebuild, we can do better. We will. We have to."
Batman gets a new mission of life, thanks to Superman.
But...are we sure about that?
He pays a visit to mass murderer, criminal mastermind and individual who has bamboozled Batman: Lex Luthor.
Batman could do two things now.
He could kill him, but we've seen he's no murderer...or he could brand him.
But what does he do instead?
He smashes his Bat-brand into the wall and leaves him unharmed.
Because he's not Judge, Jury and Executioner anymore.
He's The Batman.
To conclude this thread: about the dark filters.
Y'all need Jesus, an ophthalmologist and to go study Cinema.
Ignorant buffoons.
