Couldn't agree more. So I thought I'd try to do my part to #MakeMusicSciencePositiveAgain by compiling a thread of my recent tweets/retweets about positive things. I'd love to get more positive vibes from others feeling this way
(with apologies for some self-promotional content)
1. Loving the powerful women leading the way in our field!
(note 70% of @smpc leadership is female, including current President @LisaMargulis and President-Elect @NeuroBeats: musicperception.org/about-smpc.html)
2. Twenty ethnomusicologists and scientists coauthored a position paper arguing for the need for more and better (incl. more diverse/inclusive) cross-cultural music cognition research
3. Following from #2, @norijacoby, @LisaMargulis and I organized a symposium on "Building sustainable global collaborative research networks" with a different set of 20 fantastic experts (sadly we had to postpone a year due to COVID-19, but it will be worth the wait!)
4. #MusicScience is embracing the #OpenScience movement with a fantastic symposium at @smpc2019 by @DoctaDom et al. (osf.io/mbf5x/) and
4 cont.: ongoing CFP for special issue on #OpenScience at Empirical Musicology Review
5. My colleagues @sfujiidr, @naotokui, @sonir, @Scott_Allen__ and Akira Wakita closed out our annual @KeioSFC Open Research Forum with a cool #MusicScience performance fusing AI, live drumming, and more (brief excerpt:
)
6. Liking all the cross-disciplinary collaboration/exchange of ideas I see. For example, @musiccognition gave keynote at @ismir2019 (),
6. cont: consortium of geneticists, neuroscientists, music psychologists, linguists, etc. collaborated on genetics of rhythm ()
7. I could list many more, but will stop here and hope to get some good vibes from seeing positive highlights from others!
