In much younger days, I had a friend who lost his dad (Dad was Army) , long story, went to Abuja for holidays, Maryam Abacha shows up in friends house...recognized him (Abacha worked under his Dad)...took him to Abacha

Story is Abacha asked him..."what do you want?"
Abacha offered "anything"

My friend had no clue, he never planned or believed he would meet Abacha

Briefing Note On International Crude

1. Saudi Arabia via the OPEC cartel manage the flow of crude oil to the international markets by limiting supply thus keeping oil prices high

The US and Russia are the largest oil producers outside OPEC
With a fall in demand from the largest crude oil importer, China, the OPEC cartel agreed to drop supply and boost prices.

Russia disagreed..

Russia was keen to keep oil prices low to hurt US shale producers who have made America an oil exporting nation.
Saudi Arabia, NOT OPEC thus went to "war"...

She announced plans to boost production and exports of crude oil and discounts in Europe of more than $8 a barrel.

The US it is also planning a $7 discount to Europe, and about $5 in Asia.

The smart investors have finally discovered ETFs as a low cost route to exposure and diversification.

I personally have not bought individual shares in years.
ETFs are a hybrid financial instruments that offer the diversification of mutual funds but trade daily like stocks.

So you can buy Nigerian banking ETFs, get exposure to Nigerian banks, but can trade on that position.

If you buy the STANBICETF30...you are buying the "top" 30 listed stocks in the NSE index. That ETF is managed by Stanbic IBTC.

Someone asked..."how does CBN defend the Naira" ?

Well In terms of an exchange rate management policy, the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN has ONLY 2 main policy choices.

1. Devalue the Naira ie black market rate

Or

2. Defend the Naira ie Interbank rate
Devalue means CBN's foreign reserves remain intact as importers get Forex from interbank but pay market rate

Defend means CBN gives out foreign reserves to banks to fund imports at official or subsidised rates, well below black market rate.
If export (Crude Oil) sales are strong, Naira raises because CBN has more ammunition to fund the Import Export window and meet commitments.

If exports fall, and CBN wants Naira to stay "strong", CBN taps reserves to fund Import/Export Window more and meet commitments

Hank has to take some time off following the revolution. He wants to get better, get himself back to some semblance of how he used to be. And that means quitting the booze. After some wavering, he decides to just pour the rest out and quit cold turkey.
Connor isn't completely certain this is the best choice to make, given the lieutenant's current rate of consumption, but he trusts the man to make his own decisions. Moreover, he isn't going to leave his side, no matter what happens during detox.

Generally my father in law does not introduce me to his friends for investment guidance. 1. Because generally I am extremely blunt when it comes to investment guidance 2. I only mostly explain #risks involved
But I think his friend really forced him so he finally introduced me to this gentleman who retired from government service, has good pension and also has a frugal life style so has lot of money saved. He wanted to invest his just matured FD into a MF because FD rates were low.
After few minutes of talking to him I realised he had never invested any money in #stocks #mfs or any equity instruments ever. As I continued I realised that he wanted to invest this money for a long term and wanted the wealth generated to be transferred to his son.
