Trump is going to spend more time hiding the extent of coronavirus than fixing it because he doesn’t care how many lives are ruined or lost. It’s about re-election and furthering an attack on democratic institutions and the law to push us further into a post-political future.
The purpose of Trumpism, like Putinism, is to move to a society where democracy is managed and is no longer an impediment to the wishes of the rich and powerful. It’s the prevailing ideology now, found here, in Russia, in finance, and even Big Tech. It is expressly authoritarian.
Addressing a pandemic isn’t part of the plan. It’s why you see financial experts talking about how it could be beneficial to spread the disease and let people die. They see society as split between the worthy and unworthy. Steps to treat this are only going to be tertiary.
