When @4eyedmonk tweeted about Igbos desiring an Igbo presidency, I was tempted to weigh in because of healthy conversations that can be had with contacts here from that part but images of blatant bigotry I have encountered in Surulere flashed before me and I ignored it.
A Yoruba person doesn't have the same socialization that has shaped political decision of majority of the igbos.
We often avoid talking about it but I believe that the civil war has shaped the political posturing of the igbos than any other event over the last 60 years.
It is for the most part why a separatist leader based outside the country has had more influence over many people in the region than any politician, even though most Igbos will claim egalitarianism that requires no central rallying figure.
Kanu has become that.
Nigeria never addressed animosity and angst that followed that awful civil war, and now much of that anger is being passed on to the next generation of Igbos.
Offsprings of the generation that fought a needless war still fight political wars- on both sides.
And there are those who experienced this war, who constantly negotiate a restitution with it every election year; that years after the peace and integration, the Igbos have been integrated into eveything else but the presidency.
This is the conversation that a new generation of 'Igbo leaders of thought' must decide on and strategize about.
No region no matter how good, victimized or entitled can win the presidential election on it's own without collaboration.
Are there enough Igbos willing to reach out?
Many Igbo sons and daughters here abuse Tinubu regularly. That is okay.
Please, study the processes and the years it took to go from a state player to regional player and a collaborator for the federal election victory
That is a blueprint that should be replicated in the SE.
When Tinubu was transforming Lagos, he turned heads of other states in the regions who were PDP states. Some of those who served with him in Lagos were the initial disciples for the regional conquest.
It was when the regional victory was in place that the National followed.
Which of the South East state is that model that people will like to emulate over the last 16 years?
What revolution of ideas or policies are shaping that state that people are willing to model after?
Who is the central figure leading a coalition of people implementing these?
What many don't realize is that after the quantum leap in Lagos IGR, many states across political divide reached out to the often maligned tax consulting firm for their IGR growth too.
Which state in the SE and which governor commands such response from his contemporaries?
This are the initial points of engagement for the emerging Igbo political figures willing to step boldly into a void that needs filling.
The assemblage of perpetually angry-when-out-office people who are vocal about Ndigbos are not in this for the South East.

Cheers.
