Wow. Katie Porter cites law that lets CDC pay for costs of diagnostic testing for anyone when needed. Asks CDC's Redfield if he'll commit to invoke that authority to make it free of charge for anyone. Redfield ducks, but Porter badgers him into saying "Yes."
Couldn't upload all of it. but it really was some ace badgering by Katie Porter getting the pledge for CDC to pay for everyone's tests. She summed up: "Do not let a lack of insurance worsen this crisis."

Source tells me Republicans removed a provision that would ensure a coronavirus vaccine would be fully covered by Medicare
This would probably be what McConnell castigated this morning as a Dem bid to "test-drive some untried, untested, and controversial parts of their 'Medicare-for-All' proposal."
House Dem aide says it's a $8.3 BILLION measure.
includes: $3 B for R&D
$2.2B for prevention, preparedness, and response (with $950M for state and local agencies
Nearly $1B med supplies, health care preparedness, Community Health Centers
$1.25B to deal coronavirus overseas.

Azar refuses to promise a coronavirus vaccine will be affordable for anyone:

"We would want to ensure that we work to make it affordable, but we can't control that price, because we need the private sector to invest.. Price controls won't get us there."
Here's the clip of Azar not assuring Rep. Schakowsky a covid-19 vaccine will be affordable to all.
Another revealing bit. Schakowsky asked if we've funded all the R&D. Azar: "No, that's not accurate. For instance Gilead has a product Remdesivir that was originally NIH-funded basic research I think out of the University of Alabama, but they've carried forward with development."

Sen. Patty Murray says medical officials told senators this morning that there's a "very strong chance of an extremely serious outbreak" of coronavirus in the U.S.

She asks Azar: "Is our country ready?"
Murray, to Alex Azar, re the administration's coronavirus emergency funding request: "I am very concerned that this is not only inadequate in terms of numbers, but in terms of specifics of what we're going to need... I just think it's a band-aid."
Murray: "Can you assure every single American today that if this pandemic hits our shores that we have everything available, and we stockpiled it, and we're ready to go?"

Health Sec. Azar: "That's precisely why we need to work with Congress."

There’s no playbook for this, but here are some ideas that particularly pertain to big companies with healthy bottom lines. 2/17
Prioritize support for your lowest-paid hourly workers, e.g. janitorial staff, cafeteria staff, etc. These folks don’t have a safety net, so pay them at their regular rates even if their hours are cut. The ripple effects of a wage reduction can be devastating for this group. 3/17

@MarcusFysh thinks I "talk nonsense" on EFTA/EEA, so I thought I would put a little thread together on the issues he thinks I am talking nonsense on. For context, Marcus is an "ERG" "no deal" Brexiter Tory MP, who sits on the European Scrutiny Committee,
International Trade Committee AND the Constitutional Affairs Committee. You;d therefore hope he knew what he was talking about and would approach his scrutiny role from an evidenced-based position rather than ideology. Marcus was once a major advocate of EFTA/EEA. No more sadly.
