It's been a big day. But I wanted to let you know the latest.

As you're aware, the situation with COVID-19 in Australia is changing rapidly.

This morning, the Victorian Chief Health Officer updated his advice to say that spectators could not attend the Grand Prix.

Following this, the Australian Grand Prix Corporation and F1 decided to cancel the event.

This afternoon, I met with the leaders of other states and territories, as well as the Prime Minister.

We were briefed by the Australian Chief Medical Officer and Chief Health Officers on the current situation.

They've recommended that all non-essential public events involving 500 or more people be cancelled or postponed.

For the moment, this won't stop people going to school, work or catching the train home.

The Commonwealth Government is also urging Australians to reconsider their overseas travel plans.

And to make sure we're working collectively on Australia's response, we've established a National Cabinet to combat COVID-19 – together.

I promised to provide you with the most up-to-date information as I could, as honestly as I could – whenever I could.

We are currently working through what these big decisions will look like for Victoria, and I know some of them will be difficult.

But we all have a responsibility to act on the best medical advice available to us.

And that's exactly what we'll do.
