Urgente! Excelente notícia. A taxa de disseminação do #coronarovirus está diminuindo. O número de casos está aumentando mas a uma taxa bem menor. Com sorte, o pico do número de casos não está longe.

Although seasonal #influenza causes far more deaths than the new #coronavirus has (thus far), #2019nCoV appears to spread more readily from person-to-person + appears to be more deadly (higher mortality rate in those infected) = VERY bad.

A major challenge is that the ability of #2019nCoV to spread (R0) and the mortality rate (% infected who die) are not confirmed, because it’s highly likely that there are FAR MORE cases of #coronavirus than reported.

Some good news about that case, a young woman who was studying in Wuhan: she's in stable condition, recovering.
Along with some friends from Wuhan, she went to the hospital to report her symptoms and travel history.

BREAKING: Experts from China’s CDC in Guangdong now published a Jan 25th report that new #coronavirus has “higher pandemic risk than SARS”!!! They based it on R0 analysis from new data vs SARS. This is quite alarming if true. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
2) Here is China’s Guangdong CDC’s graph directly comparing R0 of the new 2019-nCoV with SARS during initial outbreak (using two approaches). “R values of 2019-nCoV were 2.90 & 2.92... while the corresponding R values of SARS-CoV were 1.77 & 1.85” (from biorxiv.org/content/10.110…)
3) How is SARS most different from the new #coronavirus? SARS was never contagious when someone had no symptoms. But the new #WuhanCoronavirus **can be transmitted** even when no symptoms! The former US FDA Commissioner Dr Scott Gottlieb confirms it.

This may be a wildly unpopular hot take. But be glad the #coronarovirus broke out in China. No North American city could lock down a subdivision without pure chaos, let alone isolate multiple, multimillion-person cities. This is high-level disease management. Unheard of.
I don’t want to romanticize this. But we are seeing the greatest good for the greatest #. It’s incredible stuff. Scary and dystopian but with a certain charm to it. The charm of a govt being able to make a decision, execute it (no pun) and then live with that decision long term.
That all said, my best wishes to ALL of humanity as we remember once again just how intimately interconnected this small world really is.
UPDATE: Transmission of #coronoavirus estimated at 2.6 by another research group (lower than the 3.8 initial reports). But 2.6 is still extremely bad —each infected person will infect 2.6 others. Even the authors admit #CoronaOutbreak containment will be very difficult. Thread:

La última actualización que puse, sólo incluí las 5 ciudades que se habían cerrado en la segunda fase, al poco tiempo subió a 13 ciudades en cuarentena. Ahora mismo hay restricciones de viaje voluntarios en casi todos lados.
Como dije ayer, la gente misma está cancelando viajes y evitando trenes y metro. Estamos básicamente viviendo online y a través de los celulares, donde nos organizamos y compartimos información.
