The idea for a tournament comes from the NBA’s constant issues revolving fan engagement/tv revenues etc. (1/11)
The core reason for all that is because the NBA went the opposite direction of college when it was struggling and instituted the merger ABA/NBA. They concluded that fans weren’t buying into teams and boring team basketball (2/11)
but had a higher likelihood buying into singular, high flying, drama filled story lines and that plotted this course.

Wilt was special as well as the Celtics brand but Really kinda Starting with Dr. J in the 70’s in terms of player branding being more important. (3/11)
Then you’ve got the white/black Bird/Magic storyline of the 80’s

MJ perfection of the 90’s

AI hip hop culture and Kobe reincarnation of MJ in 00’s

LBJ chosen 1, KD mutant late 00’/10’s. Both also helped undo some of the hiphop damage and spotlight business ventures. (4/11)
Steph curry, late 10’s. the man every woman could bring home, “small” by NBA standards and beats guys with the 3pt shot and craftiness not overwhelming athleticism like the others that came before him. Very biblical David slingshot storyline (5/11)
This is why the league pushes certain guys but the by product is nobody cares about the actual team, nor the regular season. It became click baity and star/stat driven, it just took time for the internet to catch up with them and make the old style of consumption obsolete. (6/11)
In college, ppl care about the school and the collective. That’s why injuries don’t really effect their season revenue and March madness is huge no matter who’s playing. Hence my/@JohnGeiger_ idea for the tournament as a whole. (7/11)
Don’t get me wrong tho, at the time it was brilliant and the reason our salaries are so high today (thank you @NBA and David Stern). But to catch up with the times you have to make radical adjustments. The same way the @NCAA has to loosen up likeness restrictions. (8/11)
If the tournament idea works from a viewership perspective, then you can shorten season to 70 games or so to accommodate players more, eliminate back to backs for “safety” and keep the tournament format.

Perfect excuse to have the pilot program they already wanted. (9/11)
The case study for massive revenues by hosting in football arenas like March madness for early rounds/play in games along with merch potential etc are all there and validated by the @NCAA (10/11)
Turns into a win/win for both sides. However the incentive structure works out is up to them. We play the 70 or so games for seeding. Extra money per round. Draft status is a combined weight of regular season and tournament performance. Make every single game count. (11/11)
